Surat At Taubah  (Arabic: سورة التوبة‎) is the ninth chapter (surah) of the Quran, with 129 verses (ayat). It is a Medinan surah, meaning that it was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) after his migration to Medina. The surah is also known as "Bara'ah" (meaning "disavowal" or "renunciation"), as the opening verses renounce certain agreements made with non-Muslim tribes, particularly the Banu Qaynuqa, Banu Nadir, and Banu Qurayza, who had broken their treaties and engaged in treacherous behavior.
